Can I buy the CD?

The CD is only available to members of the Refrigerated Transport Information Society. Join and your CD comes with membership. If you are already a member, you can order additional single user or network versions at £6.00 per copy.

What kind of computer and software do I need to run the CD?

The CD is designed to run on a PC under Windows 95 or higher. The CD makes use of the Microsoft Office Professional suite of programs plus Adobe Acrobat and Internet Explorer. If you do not have these programs installed, we can supply you with "runtime" versions. These will enable you to use the CD without purchasing any software.

The Access 2000 run time files allow the RTIS CD to be used on computers without a full installation of Access. To install these files, either:

  • Choose the "Install Access2000 Runtime" option when last year's CD is placed in the computer or run "d:\runtime\setup.exe" on last year's copy (where D: is your CD-ROM drive letter).
  • Or, contact CRT for a second CD.

How do I set up the network version?

Setup should be run on each client PC. The CD should then be placed in the CD drive of the network server. It is not always necessary to run setup on the network server. Depending on the operating system on the server, it may be necessary to install Microsoft Access or the runtime version, available free on request from CRT. The CD drive of the server should be shared and it should be specified as a read-only share. Finally, each PC should map the server's CD drive as Z:\.

Can I suggest additions?

Of course! A large amount of our yearly development of the CD is in response to requests and suggestions from RTIS members. Please email them to us.

Where are the "run time" files this year?

This year, the CD has grown such that there is no longer any room on the CD for the runtime files. CRT will provide them freely on request.

Why does the CD expire?

The CD is an ongoing development project. This means there is a continual process of enlargement and improvement. Anyone who has taken on such a project will understand why they do not particularly want older copies floating around. Furthermore, the CD is intended to provide a "front end" to the whole RTIS membership scheme which is renewable yearly. Bear in mind that whilst the CD provides answers to many questions, it also enables members to do some research themselves and come to us with the most pertinent questions.

It installed correctly but it still won't run.

Often a computer has more than one CD-ROM and may also have a DVD drive. The CD runs in the lowest CD drive letter that your operating recognises. It is usually better, after installation, simply to try the RTIS CD in different drives.

I can't run setup.

The CD should automatically run setup when it is placed in the CD drive. If it doesn't, click on the Start button, choose "Run" and type "D:\Setup" (where D is your CD-ROM drive letter).
